The Embassy of Denmark in Santiago, Chile is looking for a Head of Department (Economic diplomacy and trade)

 

Position: Head of Department (Economic diplomacy and trade)

Type of employment: Full time (37 hours) on a local contract for three years.

Location: Embassy of Denmark in Santiago de Chile, Las Condes

The Embassy of Denmark in Santiago is looking for a strategic thinking and results-oriented Head of Department for Economic Diplomacy and Trade at the Embassy. The selected applicant will replace our former Head of Department who has held the position for more than two years.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities:

You will be leading the Department of Economic Diplomacy and Trade at the Embassy. Focus is on strategic support and guidance of Danish companies that are already present in Chile or are considering doing business in Chile. The tasks are primarily to pursue and engage in long-term strategic partnerships with Danish companies and selected Chilean partners (GPA-tasks).

The Department of Economic Diplomacy and Trade is part of a close regional cooperation between Danish missions in Latin America where focuses are on four sectors: Energy Transition, Tech, Health and Food & Agro. You will work in a regional setting with other Heads of Department at Danish missions in Latin America. A specific sector responsibility will be tasked according to the applicant’s competences.

You will be responsible for the day-to-day work of the Department and its trade advisors and interns. You will be part of the Embassy’s broader management group that consists of the Ambassador and the Deputy Head of Mission. Some travel in Latin America and to Denmark is expected.

 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Independently driving the execution of the Department’s strategy within the Regional Strategy for Economic Diplomacy and Trade for Latin America.
  • Ensure that the Department’s regional KPIs’ are met.
  • Quality assurance of the Department’s work.
  • Identification of new strategic possibilities and business relations for Danish companies.
  • Business Development in close cooperation with the Ambassador, and in coordination with other Danish missions in Latin America.
  • Profound knowledge of the tools and financial opportunities provided by Trade Council’s tool box for support of Danish commercial interests.
  • Driving the strategic communication on Embassy SoMe platforms within the area of Economic Diplomacy and Trade.
  • Overall responsible for compliance in the Department (CRM-system, time registration, GDPR, filing, travel budget etc.)
  • Responsible for HR in the Department (recruitment, PLUS and competence development, compliance with MFA HR rules and regulations)

 

Required qualifications:

  • Must be able to obtain a valid work and residence permit for Chile
  • Must have knowledge of Nordic business culture and a minimum of 4-6 years of relevant experience working with Nordic companies in an international context, preferable as a team leader.
  • Experience with green transition project is an advantage, but not a requirement
  • Knowledge of how Danish embassies collaborate with Danish companies in a business context is an advantage, but not a requirement
  • A high sense of responsibility and good motivational skills
  • Organised and good at managing several tasks at the same time
  • Thriving with new challenges
  • Relevant higher education
  • IT proficiency and solid Microsoft Office skills, flair for basic CRM data processing
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Spanish.
  • Command of a Scandinavian language (Danish, Norwegian or Swedish) is an advantage, but not a requirement
  • Ability to learn to act as a public servant in accordance with Danish regulations and standards
  • Great interpersonal skills and team player abilities as well as interest in and willingness to share knowledge with – and learn from – colleagues.
  • Pro-active personality with the ability to foster and maintain networks within your field.


Reporting:

  • You will report to the Ambassador

Employment conditions:

  • You will be offered a full-time employment for three years with the possibility of extension on a local contract based on the relevant legally binding labour market rules of Chile.
  • Your standard working hours will be 37 hours per week, including 30 min. daily lunch
  • Possibility of flexitime
  • Possibility of working from home (max. one day a week) if work permits
  • You will be entitled to 25 days of paid vacation per year
  • Your salary will reflect your qualifications, relevant work experience and proven work-related results
  • Benefits and other conditions will be based on the Embassy’s Staff Rules
  • You are responsible for your relocation to Chile.
